Shark Attack - Shark

Shark

Sharks are often painted as a monster, while the vast majority are shy and peaceful animals, fundamentally important for the health of the ocean. And the likelihood of being bitten by a shark while swimming or surfing is incredibly low.

Back in 1975, Steven Spielberg's "Jaws" film became one of the top grossing films of all time. Based on the ancestral fear of the people of large predators, one of the main results of this film will keep millions of people out of the water, imprinting on the mind of the audience on the idea that sharks cold-blooded killer and a shark is not to kill as a bad idea.

have run the popular feeling, coupled with the increasing desire of shark fin from the Chinese market for shark fin soup, a close many shark populations near their extermination.

to look at actual number of shark attacks and related injuries, the reality is quite different than perceived. After the last International Shark Attack File (ISAF) report, in 2012 there were about 80 unprovoked shark attacks on humans. "Unprovoked" are defined as incidents where an attack on a living human in the human without provocation the animal Hai natural habitat occurs. So Spearfishing, Hai riders and these types of interactions are not included in "unprovoked".

Most of these episodes in North American waters occurred (42), followed by Australia (14), South Africa (4) and Reunion (3). A single incident has been reported from the Canary Islands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Tonga and Indonesia. Among these attacks seven out only one fatality (3 in Africa, 2 in Australia, 1 in California and 1 in Reunion), following the trend of about 7% of deaths, since the data is recorded started (about first decade in 100, more than 100 years).

Shark Apparently many of the shark bites made by mistake, both as a "tasting" of young people, or adults sharks that have identified a surfer incorrectly placing his board on the surface as a seal, turtle or sea lions, some of their favorite dishes. Surfers and other boat-sports participants were most affected in 2012, with 48 incidents. Swimmers and divers were involved, but in a very low ratio. The so-called "Big Three" - Great White, Tiger and Bull Sharks - were responsible for about 0% of all deaths

Although these figures would seem troubling at first glance, let us examine a little. more in detail. I would not tell you about how dangerous in any country or, even worse, to drive a car, ride a motorcycle in Bali or Jakarta. Let us stay for these examples in the natural world. only in the US, about 2,000 people died in the past 50 years from a lightning strike, compared to only 26 shark attack deaths. In the southern United States, in the same period 18 people died, the. By an alligator attack, and only nine of shark bite In Florida, 125 people died as a results of tornadoes, compared with six shark attack deaths.

If you still think that sharks terrible murderer, you might be interested in, that know in the last 10 years in the US, 263 people who died from a dog attack, and sharks only 10th and alone, some 8,000 people by another people killed bitten in New York City (!) and some of them even die.

at all this data can have a look, it's clear that the diffuse "Hai fear" is more a society and media-induced fear than an actual threat. Some very low-level films as "Sharknado" (a tornado of sharks Los Angeles beat), "Sand Sharks" (sharks swimming under the sand People on the beach to eat) or even "Shark Avalanche" (shark attack skiers under the snow Swimming) were prepared to raise these ancient fears hope (with little success, I must admit -. the trailer on YouTube)

Annual Risk of Death During One's Lifetime

million sharks are killed each year for their fins and meat. Several international scholars have already pointed out that such removal of "apex predators" from the oceans causing the fragile ecosystems irreversible damage, already threatened by many other factors, including the chemical and plastics pollution, waste, climate change and overfishing, only just to name a few.

is in Bali especially to find a shark during a dive or become a very unusual experience of a boat. Indonesia is one of the most important shark and ray fishery in the world, especially in the waters around Lombok and Bali. Some attempts at creating social awareness about the disappearance of the shark already work very well. Apparently, the demand for shark fins has declined in recent months, and some organizations in Singapore and Hong Kong beat strong campaigns against shark fin soup tradition.

Shark Something is moving also in Indonesia. Some of the major dive sites such as Komodo and Raja Ampat, declare their waters "Shark Sanctuaries", where these animals fish, is strictly prohibited. Of course, poachers are always on the prowl, but it is increasingly difficult for them to work as before.

organizations like Bali Sharks (www.balisharks.com) and the Gili Shark Foundation (facebook.com/ gilisharkfoundation) are raising the awareness of tourists and locals on the importance alive Indonesian sharks keep. The Thai-based UK charity, Hai Guardian (www.sharkguardian.org) has visit just a two-week tour schools and diving centers / resorts in Sanur, the Gili Islands and Nusa Lembongan. The directors, Brendon singing and his wife Liz, education were more than 17,000 people since February this year, when they committed their projects full time. You have visited Hong Kong, Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia during this period, as well as locations throughout Thailand. Through training courses and workshops about sharks and sea creatures they want to change to inspire and get involved in shark conservation people. Shark Guardian visited Bali International and Dyatmika schools to speak to students. They also found more than 30 women in Bali Wise in Nusa Dua, which shows how important sharks are responsible for maintaining the long-term tourism benefits to Bali. Divers and tourists were the target of the local islands and around 500 people saw Brendon and Liz in action during their time in Indonesia.

With each contribution and help, we can "Jaws" to stop and guarantee a better future for our oceans fear.
